Smoothing toolpaths

It gave me a not so nice surface finish (using 1/2 2fl carbide ball). We dropped the P/L .005" and I reposted the tool path witha .0002 tolerance (no arcs - no smoothing). Finish came out much better. ... On a machine like the Roeders with advanced lookahead functionality, and depending on application, a good starting point for the fixed ...

Vertical Mill 5 axis contour tool path using Y and C axis

Axis substitution is not typically supported by 5 axis posts but can be implemented. if you are looking for your tool to be parallel with the axis of rotation Mastercam has this function on the rotary axis tab that will use the C axis. this functionality may be supported by your 5 axis posts, if not it can be implemented.

How to Choose a Stepover for 3D Profiling

Here are a few suggestions: The stepover should be between 1/3 and 1/10 of the tool diameter. Use a larger stepover, in the 1/5 to 1/3 range, for soft materials that cannot hold detail well. Use a smaller stepover, in the 1/5 to 1/10 range, for hard materials or materials that can hold significant detail like metal and jewelers wax.

3D Contour

3D Contour. The Contour strategy is designed to give you an optimal finish for steep regions in your geometry. It is typically applied to areas where the slope exceeds an angle of 30 degrees. The Contour …

Mastercam > setting rapids between cuts

then set :-. -Clearance plane=50 or 100mm, Absolute ( enough to clear part & clamps, plus allows time to catch tool setting mistakes on the machine ) -uncheck "Use at start/end of operation" ( forces the tool to retract to this plane between ALL cuts ) -Retract = 3mm, Absolute ( must be above the part )

Complete Guide to CAM Toolpaths and Operations for Milling

This is typically done by selecting various CAM Operations or Toolpaths. An Operation or Toolpath is typically aimed at machining a particular Feature on the part, and we often refer to the Toolpath and the Feature by the same name, such as a "Hole" or a "Pocket". But not always–"2D Profiling" cuts "Vertical Walls" around the ...

Have You Tried These Mastercam Milling Features?

This is where advanced milling techniques come into play. By applying advanced technologies to routine parts, programmers can halve cycle times, save excess material, and lengthen tool life. This idea was the inspiration to many of the latest features in Mastercam 2023. Read on to explore some of the most valuable Mastercam milling …

Circular Interpolation: Machining Circular Tool Paths

Since not all parts are made of flat surfaces, end mills will invariably need to move in a non-linear path. In the case of machining circular tool paths, the path of the end mill's centerline is circular. Not surprisingly, this is referred to as Circular Interpolation. Decrease Cycle Times and Increase Shop Efficiency.

finish contour

Location:Haht-fahd. Posted October 21, 2011. Ahhh, now I understand. You are using a Surface Finish Contour toolpath, I misunderstood and thought you were using a regular 2D Contour toolpath. For a Surface Finish Contour Toolpath, The Cut Depths button is used to tell Mastercam where to start and end the toolpath in the Z Plane.

Mastercam 2023 is Now Released

New B-Axis Contour Turning Toolpath. Mastercam 2023 introduces a new toolpath to the Turning suite for the Mill-Turn product. B-Axis Contour Turning is a finishing toolpath that allows for rotation of the B-axis while the tool is cutting. The toolpath features a top-down workflow and provides you with either Automatic or Manual motion control.

Authorized Mastercam Reseller

Mastercam is the world's most widely used CAD/CAM software and continues to innovate and push the CNC Manufacturing industry forward. 6 Tips to Streamline Workflow in Mastercam 2023

2. B-Axis Contour Turning. B-Axis Contour Turning hijacks multiaxis technology for the Mastercam Mill-Turn product. This Turning toolpath allows for the rotation of the B-axis while the tool is cutting. Functionally, this tilts the turning tool dynamically during machining to access undercut or other difficult areas.

3D Contour

3D Contour. The Contour strategy is designed to give you an optimal finish for steep regions in your geometry. It is typically applied to areas where the slope exceeds an angle of 30 degrees. The Contour algorithm virtually slices the geometry into horizontal layers. At every layer, the toolpath then machines along the edge of the two ...

Selecting surfaces and 3D toolpath in MasterCam X

Then I started adding the finish tool paths, experimenting as I go along. I have found that the constant scallop path seems to work well. At least I was able to get it to work the way I would expect. And with a contour finish for the outside, this is the result so far: I added a pencil tool path that has generated some interesting paths.

3D Contour Tool path

Posted January 6, 2012. Had to switch from a 3D Contour path to a Surface finish project Tpath because the ball mill I used didn't follow the surface at bottom of cut. I couldn't figure out why but I had to go with what works so I switched to the surface projected path. The geometry I chained for the 3D Contour was projected onto a compound angle.
